The role in a nutshell:
Most people have some kind of technological device that they feel they should become better at using. Our digital champions are there to make sure people have a positive experience when interacting with technology.
What will you be doing?
How could you make a difference? Support people 50+ with access to technology.
This can be helping them use a smartphone, tablet, sending emails, connecting with family, Smart Tv's and smart speakers.
How would you be supported in this role?
In addition to providing you digital training for the role, there will be other training available, such as dementia support.
We will also provide you with check-ins, a key contact or other functions to ensure you are best supported as a volunteer.
Why do we need volunteers in this role?
We need volunteers to support people 50+ to gain confidence in using their technology. Many things have now gone online and a majority of people are struggling using their devices.
Digital technology continues to transform our lives,
particularly how we communicate, work, access services and spend our spare time.
You can help by providing digital support to individuals either face to face in their home, in the community, at one of our offices or over the phone. Our support cover topics such as:
* Surfing the internet
* using e-mail, online shopping and
* using Skype / Zoom
Additional information:
Ideally you would bring some of your background using technology, we have a discussion about your skillset and experience to identify useful training and match you with someone needing support.
We engage with the clients prior to ensure we know their level of technological understanding and specific needs so the matches are meaningful and we provide support throughout.
We provide you with up to date information and training opportunities, for example increasing understanding on systems/technology that clients may interact with.
