Role Details
This is a part‑time role of 15 hours per week, scheduled between 9 am‑5 pm, including evenings and Saturdays.
Responsibilities
* Autonomously undertake clinical skills for contraceptive and sexual health patients, including history taking, clinical examination, STI screening, microscopy, results interpretation, immunisations, and venipuncture.
* Assess, plan, implement, and provide follow‑up care for asymptomatic and symptomatic patients, including those with complex sexual health needs such as GBMSM.
* Provide advice and opportunistic cytology screening as appropriate according to policy.
* Provide comprehensive holistic assessment of patients' social, emotional, and sexual health needs and initiate follow‑up and/or referral as appropriate.
* Provide treatment.
* Undertake partner notification and escalations to the Health Advisor.
* Triage patients and refer them to an appropriate service or care pathway.
* Takes an active role in leadership and management of the nursing team.
* Participates in and carries out annual appraisals for junior staff.
* Actively participates and leads on audit and quality initiatives.
* Promotes and educates patients and external agencies/professionals about sexual health and HIV, offering PREP, PEPSE, and appropriate vaccination schedules to those who meet criteria; discusses importance of condom usage and window periods in relation to sexual health screening.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with NMC registration.
* DFSRH Faculty Diploma in Contraception & STIF Foundation (or equivalent).
* Band 6 Sexual Health Nurse, or experienced Band 5 in a sexual health setting.
* Experience working within Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
* Teaching and mentorship experience.
* Letters of Competency for Subdermal Implants.
* Symptomatic screening competency (STIF Foundation).
* Ability to apply research evidence and theory to clinical practice.
* Understanding of factors influencing intervention models and patient participation.
* Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes.
* Within 12 months of commencement must have completed Loc sub‑dermal implant training cytology.
* Within 2 years of commencement must have completed a sexually transmitted infections and intermediate qualification.
* Takes on a champion role in infection prevention, safeguarding and/or extended role LOC IUD training.
* Revalidates FSRH and BASHH qualifications every five years.
* Eligible for V300 Independent Non‑Medical Prescriber qualification (desirable).
* Knowledge of FSRH LoC Intrauterine techniques (LoC IUT) (desirable).
* Experience in Sexual Health Advising (desirable).
