About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Analyst to join our team at Lockheed Martin Strategic Systems in Helensburgh, Scotland. This is a pivotal role that spans across all business functions, championing our journey towards becoming a data-driven organisation.

This position benefits from our 4xFlex working pattern, offering a 4 day working week (Monday to Thursday), along with flexible hybrid working – typically two days a week on site.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Collection & Management: Collect, clean, and manage large, complex datasets from various defence-related sources, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with security protocols.
2. Advanced Analytics: Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to identify trends, forecast outcomes, and support strategic defence initiatives.
3. Cybersecurity & Compliance: Adhere to stringent defence regulations and cybersecurity standards, ensuring the secure handling of sensitive information.
4. Threat Intelligence: Analyse data to detect threats, vulnerabilities, and emerging patterns that may impact national security, providing actionable insights to relevant stakeholders.
5. Operational Efficiency: Leverage data insights to enhance operational effectiveness in areas such as resource planning, logistics, and mission optimisation.
6. Reporting & Visualisation: Communicate complex analytical findings through clear, impactful reports and data visualisations, tailored for defence stakeholders and decision-makers.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with military personnel, strategists, IT teams, and fellow analysts to deliver data solutions aligned with operational needs.
8. Research & Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in analytics, AI, and machine learning, applying cutting-edge methods to improve defence capabilities.
9. Mentorship & Training: Support and develop junior analysts, fostering growth and ensuring high standards of expertise across the team.
10. Project Leadership: Lead end-to-end data projects, managing resources, timelines, and deliverables in alignment with broader organisational objectives.
11. Security Compliance: Uphold necessary security clearances, adhering strictly to classified data protocols.
12. Continuous Development: Proactively engage with evolving technologies, defence strategies, and analytical methodologies to maintain a leading-edge skill set.

Security Clearance

Required skills, qualifications and experience

13. Proven experience in a senior or lead data analyst role
14. Demonstrated leadership in managing data projects or teams
15. Strong expertise in advanced analytics, statistics, and machine learning
16. Proficient in Python, R, and SQL
17. Skilled in data visualisation tools such as Tableau and Power BI
18. Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and threat intelligence
19. Effective project management capabilities
20. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
21. Experience mentoring junior team members
22. Strong adaptability and enthusiasm for emerging technologies
23. Experience working with sensitive and classified data

Business Environment

Lockheed Martin UK – Strategic Systems (LMUK SS) is the single contractor providing specialist Waterfront In-Service Support to one of the Royal Navy's Submarine Programs. The company provides the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with safe, efficient and responsive support. LMUK SS, as part of the ABL Alliance with AWE and Babcock, is also responsible for the management of operations at RNAD Coulport. Looking to the future, LMUK SS supports the joint US and UK submarine design efforts.
