Summary

The post holder will be expected to teach within the broad area of mathematics, physics, computer science and/or chemistry to an A level standard. This will be within an established teaching programme (under the supervision of the EPS academic lead). Dependent on experience, the candidate may also deliver on other elements of the pathway including but not limited to providing academic personal tutorial etc. Reporting to the Head of the BIA and working with EPS academic lead, the individual will form part of a teaching team delivering the BIA’s Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) pathway.

They will be expected to contribute to learning materials, curriculum development, and/or management (specialist duties may include assessment development, teacher development, VLE development, quality systems and audits).

The post holder will also undertake other teaching related activities and any other relevant duties, as directed by the Head of foundation for BIA.

Main Duties

1. Teach courses at a range of levels within at least two of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science to foundation level, predominantly through allocated lectures and seminars, so that the BIA and Colleges’ teaching objectives are met.
2. Contribute to the design of modules with other colleagues.
3. Plan and prepare own teaching, including support materials in accordance with the established objectives of the teaching programme.
4. Devise and supervise projects, student dissertations, and/or practical work.
5. Providing academic support to the students through additional resources as required, personal academic tutorials.
6. Develop an approach to planning and reviewing own teaching. Undertake full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining. (Summative assessment, including assessed work contributing to the final award – as a mark or as a credit – such as unseen examinations, essays, dissertations or presentations, is subject to validation by the academic
7. Frequently update own subject expertise.
8. Undertake personal professional development in teaching, including self-reflection on own teaching, using student and peer review feedback, to enhance own teaching and learning processes.
9. Contribute to knowledge transfer on own specialism that is of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader.
10. Undertake management/administration arising from teaching.
11. Contribute to Departmental/School teaching-related activities and teaching-related administration where relevant.
12. Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader.
13. Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.

Person Specification

14. Higher degree relevant to research or teaching area or equivalent qualifications.
15. Knowledge of the curriculum requirements, or experience in delivery at International Foundation, A-level or equivalent.
16. Ability to design and deliver module materials successfully.
17. Ability to assess and organise resources effectively.
18. Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.
19. Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
