CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time

DEPARTMENT: Nations, South Daily TV

LOCATION: Southampton

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £33,900 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

EXTEND

This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC South is looking for a self-starting multimedia journalist to work in its newsroom in Southampton. This is your chance to be part of a busy news patch, producing award winning TV news programmes. We are looking to recruit a journalist who can make the important regional stories come to life, who understands what makes a lead story and can work as part of a team to ensure content is delivered online, on TV, Radio and social media.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact


* To work alongside the TV output producer to help plan and deliver our daily television output, and also be able to work alone compiling material.
* Identify and pursue unique and newsworthy story ideas. Conduct thorough research, verify facts, and arrange interviews or on-location shoots to bring fresh, original content to the bulletin.
* Work closely with camera operators, producers, reporters, and other newsroom staff to ensure seamless coordination from story conception to broadcast.
* Be a self-starter who can work independently under pressure and motivate others.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* Ability to originate original stories.
* Qualified journalist, with a good knowledge of production techniques.
* Ability to use technology as required, in order to gather material for broadcast.
* A detailed knowledge of the BBC’s editorial and social media guidelines and commitment to Digital First.
* Effective planning and organising skills and ability to brief colleagues on assignments.
* Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner and adapt to different audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.

Desired But Not Required

* Camera and editing skills (training can be given).
* Evidence of presenting content on radio, TV or online. This might be live or recorded.
* Experience of working in a live newsroom environment.
