ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - SENIOR ENGINEER The Senior Engineer is a key link between the works on-site, the design and technical functions, and the wider project team. They provide technical guidance to the workforce and Site Engineers, ensuring project success through consistent leadership and technical oversight. The Senior Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the Project Engineer/Project Manager are well-informed of day-to-day technical challenges on-site. They also play a vital role in maintaining Statom’s reputation for delivering quality, safety, and technical excellence. Key Roles and Responsibilities: 1. Project Oversight and Leadership: Lead and provide technical guidance to the engineering team, ensuring all project requirements are met. Act as the primary technical point of contact for the project (Either alongside the Project Engineer or in the Absence of a Project Engineer), providing solutions to site-based challenges. Ensure the Site Engineering team is delivering high-quality work and adhering to Statom's standards and specifications. – Champion and focus on achieving the highest Quality and Technical Standards Mentor Site Engineers and junior team members, fostering professional growth, training and ensuring technical competence. Ensure continuous improvement through effective problem-solving and decision-making on-site. 2. Dimensional Control and Surveying: Plan and implement dimensional control strategies, ensuring all setting-out information and primary/secondary controls are accurate and controlled. Ensure that the correct survey equipment is used and maintained, with proper checks and logging carried out by the Site Engineers. Guide the Site Engineers on the capabilities and limitations of survey equipment, ensuring appropriate selection for upcoming tasks. Where applicable, arrange additional training for individuals – through the Engineering Director. Monitor and plan as-built surveys, ensuring that they respond to project specifications and any emerging technical risks. – Ensure As-builts are being completed on time Interpret as-built surveys, promptly raising any non-compliance issues with the Project Engineer or design team. – Provide proposals and recommendations for resolving any non-conformances. 3. Quality Management: Develop and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) that meet the project specifications, contractual requirements, and comply with Statom's Quality Management System. Ensure that ITPs, Task Briefing Sheets, and Method Statements are suitably briefed to the project team, they are adhered to and quality assurance documentation is produced to the required standard. Monitor and report on subcontractor performance, ensuring their quality control and implementation complies with Statom’s standards. Identify and manage non-conformances, raising Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and leading efforts to close them out with agreed mitigations. Promote learning with others to ensure issues are not repeated elsewhere. 4. Materials Management: Understand and ensure compliance with the Material Approvals process, ensuring materials meet specifications and employer’s requirements. Make the site and assistant engineers aware of the requirements. Manage long-lead item procurement and ensure materials are ordered in a timely manner to meet the project schedule. Monitor material wastage and implement controls to minimise excess material usage. Perform material take-offs from drawings and site measures, ensuring accurate material records. Oversee the material testing regime, ensuring tests are conducted and recorded in line with project specifications. Consider sustainable material use and take measures where appropriate to minimise embodied carbon. 5. Construction Methods and Innovation: Maintain expertise in a wide range of construction methods, effectively communicating methodologies to the site team. Develop and learn from the wider project team. Propose value engineering solutions, suggesting alternative methods, materials, and practices to enhance project delivery. Implement knowledge and lessons learned from previous projects to improve current practices. Ensure that design information is accurately translated into practical instructions for the site team. 6. Design Process and Information Management: Ensure that there is a suitable Design Responsibility Matrix and Information release schedule in place for the project. Understand it, make sure it is in line with the contract and fit for purpose – otherwise raise with the Project Manager Assist in the management of the design process (alongside the Project Engineer/Project Manager), ensuring that design information (drawings, specifications, employer’s requirements) is available, accurate, and clear. Ensure they are stored in a controlled way (Preferably digital document management system), that latest information is for construction and is being used on site. Track receipt of design information against the IRS. Raise Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs) when required, escalating issues of missing or conflicting information to the Project Engineer or Project Manager. Understand the Contractor Design responsibilities and collaborate with specialist designers to fulfill the Contractor Design Portion items. Ensure compliance with third-party approvals and regulatory requirements such as Network Rail, Thames Water, UKPN, etc. – Allow sufficient time for this process. Highlight and manage design changes, ensuring timely updates to all stakeholders. 7. Temporary Works and Lifting Operations: Assist in the management of the Temporary Works process (working closely with the TWC and Project Engineer), ensuring appropriate selection, design, and implementation of temporary structures. Allow sufficient time for design and procurement of Temporary Works. Fulfill the role of Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) and potentially Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC), ensuring all temporary works are documented and tracked. – Only by appointment and with suitable, knowledge, training and experience to ensure competency. Contribute to the planning of lifting operations, ensuring the Lift Plan is followed and assist the Appointed Person in managing lifting activities. Ensure lifting operations are conducted safely and comply with statutory regulations, by assisting the suitably qualified Appointed Person. 8. Sustainable Development: Contribute to the development of sustainable solutions, identifying opportunities for carbon efficiencies in project delivery. Ensure that contractual sustainability requirements are met and promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Be aware of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and implement these where applicable. 9. Safety & Environmental Management: Ensure that construction phase plans and environmental management plans are adhered to, maintaining a focus on safety and environmental compliance. Produce and review method statements, task sheets, and risk assessments for all site activities. – ensuring HS&E risk is minimised as far as practically possible and to an acceptable level of risk. Participate in site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings. – Presenting where necessary Manage the permit systems for the site, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations. Review Observation Cards and lead efforts to close out safety actions. Conduct safety inspections, ensuring findings are addressed and closed out. Lead by Example – take a ‘Don’t Walk By’ attitude to Health, Safety and Environment. 10. Commercial and Procurement: Work closely with the commercial team, providing technical input for budget management and variations. Ensure we comply with the scope of works. Monitor and manage material procurement, ensuring orders are placed on time and in line with project specifications and budgets. Assist in the change control process, notifying the commercial team of any changes or variations. Contribute to procurement packages, assessing technical proposals and ensuring suppliers and subcontractors meet project requirements and budgets. 11. Programme and Project Management: Assist in managing the project programme, helping to track progress and identify potential delays. Draw drop lines as required, sharing with the wider team. Contribute to the project lookahead programmes, identifying and managing interfaces and dependencies. Oversee short-term project strategies, ensuring key milestones and project goals are achieved. Monitor subcontractor performance, ensuring delivery on time and to the required quality. Ensure that handover and client inspections occur on schedule, addressing any outstanding issues promptly. 12. Learning and Development: Identify development needs for both themselves and their team members. Raise training requirements with the Engineering Director Actively mentor Site Engineers and junior team members, providing guidance and support for their professional growth. Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and integrate new technologies or methods into current projects. Work towards developing professional accreditation and maintain CPD records. Skills and Qualifications: Educational Qualification: A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Experience: Typically, 5 years of experience in the construction industry, with a focus on site engineering or project management. Certifications: Health and safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, NEBOSH, OSHA), and Temporary Works training (e.g., TWC/TWS) are advantageous. Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication for reporting, training, and stakeholder engagement. Technical Expertise: Proficient with CAD, surveying equipment, project management software, and other engineering tools. Project: Energy for Waste (EfW) Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Facility Location: Wisbech Start Date Mid Oct 2025 Duration: 6-18 Months – Contract Dependent Parking On Site available – must be able to commute to the project on a daily basis Typical working hours 7.30-5-30 Monday to Friday Weekend Optional Will consider PAYE and CIS – Competitive Salaries Experience in EfW Desirable Groundworks, Excavations and Drainage Experience - Essential Heavy RC Construction - Essential Slipform Experience – Desirable Site Engineer - At least 3 years site experience - essential Senior Engineer – At least 8 years site experience - essential Must have a valid CSCS card and relevant experience Must have a right to work in the UK
