Overview
As an Economic Development Officer, you will support the development of the council’s tourism and visitor economy initiatives. Working with internal teams, you will coordinate promotional activity across communications, regeneration, transport, and heritage, as well as partner organisations such as the Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP). Your work will help leverage additional resources, extend the impact of council-led activity, and strengthen the long-term resilience and sustainability of South Gloucestershire’s visitor economy.
What You Will Be Doing
* Support the Economic Development team by preparing economic responses to planning applications, monitoring growth across the three enterprise areas in South Gloucestershire (by preparing qualitative and quantitative reports) and undertaking primary and secondary data collection on commercial developments.
* Oversee the inspection and monitoring of business sites and premises across the area, and manage data relating to premises, including the number of vacant properties and businesses related to sectors.
* Regularly work with senior officers and external partners on a wide range of economic development issues.
What We Need From You
* Hold or be working towards a professional or technical qualification such as a level 3 in economic development or leadership and management.
* Previous experience in a client-focused environment, with a proven ability to work directly with other professionals, stakeholders and partner organisations.
* Good understanding of local government; previous experience working in a similar service area is desirable.
* Ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve day-to-day issues independently.
* Strong IT skills, particularly proficiency in Microsoft Office, and excellent written skills with experience of writing reports and analyzing and interpreting data.
What You Need To Know
* You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area, so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
* You may be required to make lone visits to sites.
* Due to the nature of the role, you may have to attend meetings in the evenings or early mornings depending on the project.
Interviews are anticipated to be held on 17 September.
