Job Title: General Manager

Location: Basingstoke

Work Type: Full-Time, On-site

Salary: £80,000 - £101,000

Lead people with empathy and drive culture change in a Retail / Distribution Centre / Logistics environment. This role reports to the Logistics Director and focuses on people leadership, culture, engagement, empowerment, and continuous improvement within a Distribution Centre.


Position Summary

The General Manager will transform the culture of the Distribution Centre, champion employee engagement, empowerment, and continuous improvement. You will inspire and mentor a diverse management team, cultivate collaboration, and ensure every team member feels valued and heard. You will oversee operational performance and safety compliance, drive initiatives that promote a positive organizational culture, and foster open communication with union representatives to prioritize innovation, inclusion, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and inspire the Management team to exceed daily output objectives while fostering an engaging and innovative workplace culture.
* Implement transformational change initiatives that elevate team performance and employee satisfaction.
* Create a safe working environment by ensuring Health & Safety compliance and promoting a culture of safety in collaboration with the H&S Manager.
* Meet and exceed customer service requirements while managing the operational budget effectively.
* Promote employee engagement through leadership style and various initiatives that encourage communication and feedback.
* Build positive relationships with union representatives and ensure constructive labour relations.
* Participate in UK and Ireland network management decisions and represent Martin Brower positively within the industry.


Qualifications

* Experience: Significant FMCG operations background, particularly in retail or distribution centres. Proven track record in managing large, complex budgets and operations.
* Transformational Leader: Ability to sponsor and lead continuous improvement while prioritising employee wellbeing.
* Exceptional Communicator: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of fostering trust and transparent dialogue.
* Empathetic People Leader: Passion for developing talent and creating an environment where team members thrive; focus on ongoing feedback and mentorship.
* Strategic Thinker: Uses data and insights to drive business outcomes and implement priorities while remaining responsive to industry trends.
