About us
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK's best known hospitals - Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield and employs around 23,500 staff with over 1 million patient contacts a year.
The paediatric palliative care service was established at Evelina London Children's Hospital in 2013, initially as a charity funded 2-year project but then developing into a substantive service. Although the service is based at Evelina, it has strong networking links across SE London, including with community partners in Lambeth and Southwark, with Demelza Hospice, and with colleagues across King's Health Partners as well as Kent. There are also 4 other Part time substantive consultants, 7 clinical nurse specialist posts, a GRID trainee and 2 full time service administrators.
Development of the paediatric palliative care services at ECH was pump primed by a DH grant from the '£30 million fund'. This funding supported a 9-month project, which initiated training programmes, care pathways and collaborative links across SE London and into Kent & Medway. The proposed endpoint was that there should be a 5-day a week commissioned on-site and outreach service as ECH with out-of-hours cover.
The fifth part time consultant post will share in the clinical caseload of the clinical team working together with all members of the CNS team and GRID trainee.
