Financial Controller (No.1 in Finance)
Chesterfield | Hybrid Working | Full-time or Part-time Considered
Connected Finance is exclusively retained by The Barmy Army (Emprise Group) to appoint a Financial Controller to join the Senior Leadership Team. The Barmy Army is one of the most recognised brands in world cricket, operating across multiple entities including membership, international tours and apparel. Following significant growth and recent acquisition activity, this is a pivotal hire as the group strengthens and modernises its finance capability.
The Role
This is the lead finance role within the business. The successful candidate will take ownership of the finance function across multiple group entities, ensuring robust controls, accurate consolidated reporting and commercially relevant insight to support strategic decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the month-end close process across the group
• Producing consolidated monthly management accounts and board-ready reporting
• Integrating recently acquired operations into a cohesive group structure
• Strengthening financial controls and balance sheet integrity
• Implementing improved processes, automation and system efficiencies
• Supporting cashflow management and working capital oversight
• Managing and developing the Group Accountant
• Working closely with the Managing Director and wider SLT on financial performance and planning
This role requires someone proactive with the numbers produced. The business is not seeking an accountant who simply reports results. They are looking for a finance leader who interrogates performance, identifies opportunities for improvement, and has the confidence to challenge constructively in order to drive better commercial outcomes.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountants.
You may already be operating as a Financial Controller, or you could be a high-performing Finance Manager ready to step into a broader leadership remit.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Strong hands-on ownership of month-end and balance sheet integrity
• Experience improving finance processes and controls within an SME environment
• Exposure to multi-entity or group structures
• Experience managing or developing at least one direct report
• Commercial acumen and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders
• The ability to operate effectively within a scaling, evolving organisation
Experience of leading or integrating a new finance system, or modernising legacy processes, would be highly desirable.
Culture
The Barmy Army is entrepreneurial, ambitious and values driven. Challenge is encouraged and ego is not. The successful individual will be comfortable operating with autonomy, accountability and visibility at leadership level.
