Role
Relief Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) on a casual basis for the Berkshire Emergency Duty Service (EDS). You will step in at critical moments to deliver high‑quality interventions and respond to Mental Health Act (MHA) assessment requests when they matter most. The role involves out‑of‑hours support for adults and children at immediate risk.
Schedule: minimum 2 shifts per month (ideally including overnight cover). Work is flexible across multidisciplinary and inter‑agency settings.
Contract: Casual. Hours: 0 hours per week, casual shifts. Working Pattern: Evenings/Weekends. Location: EDS, Waterside Park, Bracknell (Hybrid working). Salary: £29.79 – £30.37 per hour inclusive of London weighting plus 20% responsibility allowance, equivalent to £57,477 – £58,608 per year.
DBS: Enhanced. All successful candidates subject to a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check as part of pre‑employment checks.
About You and Qualifications
* Qualified AMHP registered with the appropriate professional body (Social Work England, HCPC, NMC).
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of the MHA, social care legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
* Commitment to a minimum of two shifts per month, ideally including overnight cover.
* Comfortable using IT systems, able to produce clear, high‑quality reports and communicate impactfully.
* Strong organisational and risk‑management skills, able to make sound decisions under pressure and confidently challenge others when needed.
* Commitment to upholding professional values and doing the right thing for people supported.
About The Team
The Berkshire EDS is a specialist team of Approved Mental Health Professionals, Senior Adult and Children’s Social Workers, Adult Safeguarding Care Coordinators and Call Screening Officers. Working in partnership with health colleagues, police, and other stakeholders, we provide professional support out of hours to protect the welfare of service users within statutory accountabilities and wider policies.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and prioritise social care requirements for out‑of‑hours cases.
* Deliver an emergency service for assessment and action when adults and children are referred as being at immediate risk.
* Act as the key person for expert advice and quality interventions.
* Actively participate in reflective practice group sessions.
* Provide unique out‑of‑hours emergency social care and homelessness support for the whole of Berkshire.
* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures relating to the work of an AMHP, adult and children social care and participate on relevant multi‑agency working parties when required.
* Deliver an emergency service for assessment and action when adults and children are referred as being at immediate risk.
