Overview

All staff have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The post holder must undertake the appropriate level of training and is responsible for ensuring that they understand and work within the safeguarding policies of the organisation.

This is an advisory role in an establishment, non‑rotational, non‑operational and includes line management responsibilities.


Responsibilities

* Ensure Equality Impact Assessments are completed appropriately.
* Maintain a programme of Equality Impact Assessments and ensure it is actioned.
* Disseminate equality monitoring data and actions agreed to eliminate any unlawful discrimination.
* Develop and manage the annual Equality Plan outlining how the establishment will address equality issues.
* Ensure the establishment meets its legal obligations under relevant equality legislation.
* Create Equality Action Plans to highlight and resolve areas of non‑compliance.
* Contribute to and lead activities of the Equality Committee, writing and presenting reports and addressing issues raised.
* Carry out equality‑related audits and report findings to the Senior Management Team (SMT).
* Develop links between other areas of the establishment and local groups to improve knowledge of equality strands.
* Collaborate with Safer Custody to support the decency agenda and address bullying and harassment related to equality issues.
* Work with the litigation lead on equality‑related litigation.
* Ensure all staff, agency workers and volunteers receive equality training and that prisoners receive an equality induction and training in accordance with their sentence plan.
* Manage the Diversity Incident Reporting Form (DIRF) process.
* Act as the subject‑matter lead advisor, providing advice and recommendations to the Senior Management Team, managers and individuals.
* Manage all staff within the area, including performance, development, annual appraisal and sickness absence management.
* Keep up to date with changes in law and legislation in the field and ensure establishment compliance.
* Develop and maintain local policies and procedures in the subject area, ensuring alignment with national standards, guidance and best practice.
* Suggest ways to improve and achieve Service Delivery Indicators (SDI).
* Ensure that all relevant administration, data collection and analysis, including SDIs, are collated.
* Deliver and organise awareness sessions in the relevant area.
* Chair monthly meetings in the relevant work area.
* Liaise with external bodies where required.

Essential Experience

* Able to deal effectively and assertively with staff at all levels.
* User of MS Word and MS Excel.
* Information collation and analysis.


Technical Requirements

* Must complete specific training to hold the qualifications required for the area of specialism outlined on the Job Description.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).


Hours of Work

37 hour working week.

Additional Requirements

* Ability to fulfil spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English.
