ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a kind, proactive, and reliable Personal Assistant (PA) to join a small, established team providing 2:1 support to a fun, active and energetic 11-year-old boy who is autistic and has a severe learning disability, ADHD, and sensory processing disorder.
Support takes place both at home (ST16) and in the local community sometimes alongside the clients mum or dad, and at other times with another experienced PA.
The clients mum is due to have major surgery in November, and there is an urgent need to provide cover for after-school periods alongside an existing PA. Thereafter, occasional hours will be available, particularly during school holidays and weekends.
The role focuses on helping the client, who is non-speaking enjoy meaningful activities, regulate sensory input, and communicate using alternative methods. Calmness, flexibility, and a positive, neuro-affirming attitude are essential.
ABOUT YOU
Ability to remain calm and supportive where behaviours of concern may present.
A respectful, neuro-affirming approach to care or willingness to learn and adopt.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
Right to work in the UK.
Experience supporting children or young people withautism,learning disabilities, and/orsensory processing needs. (Desirable)
Experience working within family-led care teams. (Desirable)
Familiarity with alternative, visual communication aids. (Desirable)
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent, hands-on 2:1 support, including personal care.
Work in partnership with the clients parents and fellow PAs to ensure consistent, safe, and person-centred care.
Support emotional regulation, transitions, and structured routines.
Facilitate sensory-friendly activities and community outings tailored to the clients interests.
Model and encourage the use of visual communication aids (e.g. PODD book, symbols, or gestures).
Maintain a safe, nurturing environment at home and in the community.
Communicate clearly, respectfully, and collaboratively with the family and wider team.
