CNWL Addictions directorate is recruiting for a new Children and Young People’s (CYP) Health and Wellbeing Service for Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster called Re:start.
The role is to work as a member of the CYP service within the boroughs, supporting partnership working, networking and attending relevant meetings and events.
The Adolescent Health & Wellbeing Specialist will provide support and engage CYP in one‑to‑one support, advice and information relating to substance use and associated harms to promote a healthier lifestyle and positive health outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Deliver educational awareness in CYP settings (schools, colleges, community venues) through workshops and assemblies.
* Deliver bespoke training for teachers, foster carers, parents, social care workers and other contacts with CYP.
* Oversee and work effectively in partnership with all relevant key partners within the boroughs, networking and establishing links where appropriate.
* Use specialist knowledge and skills in substance use to undertake assessment, develop care plans, implement and evaluate treatment delivered to young people, and complete high‑quality reports for schools, children and family services, CAMHS, etc.
* Plan, organise and deliver individual and group work interventions for young people in suitable locations.
* Act as keyworker to a defined allocated caseload of clients under the supervision of a designated manager.
* Ensure that care and management of the client group complies with expected standards, and adheres to policies and procedures.
* Conduct outreach in the community, identify health and wellbeing needs and support the development of services in response to those needs.
* Co‑design workshops, interventions and solutions with CYP, organisations, schools, parents, family and carers to support wellbeing and improve accessibility of existing offers.
* Signpost CYP to appropriate services that meet their needs.
Training and Qualification
Essential criteria
* Strong understanding of recovery practitioner roles within children and young people’s services.
* Evidence of further training in personal recovery principles.
* Commitment to obtaining underpinning knowledge through work‑based learning and mandatory training.
Desirable criteria
* Motivational Interviewing training.
* Any specific training related to young people.
* Completed recovery practitioner training.
* SMART Group facilitator trained.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience working with alcohol/substance users or a comparable field.
* Understanding of complex issues presented by young people.
* Experience working as part of a team.
* Experience working with individuals of all ages in a therapeutic/supportive role.
* Experience collaborating with health providers, schools, CAMHS, probation, courts, police, youth services, mental health and addiction organisations.
* Experience delivering groups as well as one‑to‑one interventions.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in evaluations, audit and research.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge of recovery principles and values.
* Evidence of good interpersonal skills and ability to form boundaries with service users and carers.
* Ability to assess and manage caseload of clients, make continuous assessments of psychosocial, emotional and rehabilitative needs, develop care plans and evaluate them.
* Conversant with harm reduction precepts.
* Ensure compliance with risk assessments and risk management.
* Complete relevant data collection using established outcome monitoring tools and quality measures.
* Use Microsoft packages to keep records and write reports (or learn).
* Effective listening skills and team player.
* Challenge stigma, low expectations and discriminatory practice effectively.
Personal
Essential criteria
* Preparedness to work flexible hours by prior arrangement (e.g. evenings and weekends).
* Ability to travel between locations using own or public transport.
* Able to show compassion and emotional resilience to manage difficult and upsetting conversations where necessary.
Desirable criteria
* Experience working with diverse community groups.
* Currently lives, studies or works in RBKC/WCC and has a strong association with these areas.
