In partnership with the Ryde Neighbourhood Board the Isle of Wight Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Community Engagement Officer to oversee delivery of the Board's Community Engagement Plan. This 3‑year fixed term position is well suited to an individual who has gained significant direct experience managing and delivering community engagement activity with a range of partners, stakeholders, local groups and individuals.
The Community Engagement Officer will be part of a new, small team dedicated to the bedding‑in and delivery of Ryde Neighbourhood Board's 10‑year Vision for the town. They will work directly with the Board with supervision from the Isle of Wight Council's Regeneration team, which supports the work of the Community Services Directorate. As Ryde Neighbourhood Board's Community Engagement Officer, you will work closely with the Chair and Members of the Communication and Public Engagement Committee to ensure the smooth delivery of its Community Engagement Strategy in accordance with the Government Pride in Place programme guidelines. The role requires a high level of independence, diplomacy, innovative thinking and problem solving and an individual who is exceptionally well organised, methodical and able to inspire grassroots community stakeholders to participate in the work of the Board.
Ryde has been selected to benefit from a grant of £19.5 million as part of the Government's Pride in Place programme. It will be receiving the funds over the ten‑year period 2026–2036. The Ryde Neighbourhood Board has come together to guide how this funding is invested over the next decade. The Board is an independent, non‑constituted body that has listened to Ryde residents, local businesses, grassroots campaigners and community leaders to identify a new vision for the town. This vision is simple: a stronger, healthier, more confident Ryde shaped by the people who live here. The Board has requested the Isle of Wight Council manage its day‑to‑day operation and help oversee delivery of its 10‑year Vision.
