An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us as a Detention & Escort Support in Custody in Newtown Police Station.

Our Detention and Escort Support staff perform a vital role in the smooth running of our custody suites, providing 24/7 coverage across the Dyfed Powys force area. They work 12-hour shifts (days and nights) over a rotating pattern to provide a high standard of care for people who are detained by the police. Custody units are operational departments that run 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

You can expect a starting salary of £27,747 per annum, rising to £29,649 over 3 years (FTE). In addition to your salary, you will also receive additional weekend and shift allowances.

This role is anticipated to commence in March 2026, with a 3-week course at Dyfed Powys Police Headquarters in Carmarthen (this depends upon successful Pre-employment checks).

What you will be doing?

To carry out a range of duties to contribute to the effective and efficient escort detention and handling of detainees.

* To work closely with custody officers in conducting regular checks on detainees in custody.
* To assist in the conveyance of persons under arrest to a detention facility or other specified location.
* To assist at other custody suites within the force area, in the case of operational requirements. (Appropriate

allowances will be paid in line with Police Staff pay and conditions).
* In compliance with PACE, assist in the reception, searching and processing of detainees, including the taking of

fingerprints, palm prints, photographs, footwear impressions and obtaining DNA samples as required.
* To attend to the detainees' welfare needs e.g. supplying meals, provision of washing facilities, supervision of telephone

calls, exercise, answering cell calls, medication, etc. in accordance with the College of Policing APP.
* Shift Working, Weekend Working.
* A Full Driving license is essential for this role.
