Specialist Learning Support Assistant
College: East Surrey College (Redhill)
Salary: £26,379 (pro-rated accordingly)
Hours: Full time (37 hours/week) Monday – Friday 08:30-17:00 — Term Time Only (38 weeks)
We are currently seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Specialist Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our Additional Learning Support (ALS) department.
As a Specialist Learning Support Assistant you will help to provide a quality learning environment with the ultimate aim of raising levels of attainment across all of the English programmes that are provided at the College (including GCSE and Functional Skills).
You will have the opportunity to support students who need additional support within their classes on both an individual and group basis, ensuring that students are exam ready and achieve their learning goals.
Working closely with lecturing staff, you will ensure that attendance is high, support needs are met, and an appropriate level of supervision is provided at all times. You will also take responsibility for any designated students who have additional needs as directed by your line manager, and you will need to be able to differentiate your resources and take ownership to ensure that learners are performing to their full potential. This role will also involve providing teaching cover on occasion and completing ALS referral forms as and when requested.
Responsibilities and expectations
* Support students in their classes on an individual and group basis to raise attainment in English programmes (including GCSE and Functional Skills).
* Assist with maintaining high attendance, meeting support needs, and providing supervision.
* Differentiate resources and tailor support to learners with additional needs as directed by the line manager.
* Provide teaching cover on occasion and complete ALS referral forms as required.
The successful candidate must:
* Have a level three qualification (or higher) in a specific subject
* Knowledge of SEND is essential
* A teaching qualification (ideally at Level 3 or above) or be willing to work towards this
* Be qualified to at least Level 2 in both Maths and English, with knowledge of the GCSE Curriculum
* Have a positive and dedicated approach with a real desire to make a difference
* Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Have proficient IT/computer skills
Previous experience of supporting students in a College or School environment within a similar department is highly desirable.
