This key role within the business will make a real difference by ensuring the quality of products produced at our Davidstow site, including whey products, Cathedral City, and Davidstow cheddar.
The role involves delivering analytical chemistry and microbiological testing services to support technical projects and departmental goals. Opportunities for cross-training are available based on your strengths.
As part of the Davidstow laboratory team, you will be a hands-on resource with supervisory responsibilities across a shift team of four analysts. You will lead investigatory and analytical work to deliver projects within deadlines and ensure specialist product release testing.
You will be responsible for documenting and reporting results, maintaining methodologies, and ensuring completion of SDUK due diligence testing, SOP validation, training, and adherence.
This is a shift-based role, working 3-on/3-off, from 7 am to 7 pm.
* Oversee daily microbiological and chemistry testing operations, ensuring workflow efficiency and supporting testing at our water processing facility.
* Ensure all testing complies with SOPs, and update SOPs with new techniques, providing training to the team.
* Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in testing procedures.
* Escalate out-of-spec or out-of-trend results to management.
* Support root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives with plant and lab management.
* Promote continuous improvement by developing and validating new methods.
* Conduct risk assessments, ensure safe working practices, and compliance with H&S standards.
* Carry out supervisory tasks, including return-to-work interviews and personal development planning.
* Participate in tier-one meetings, discussing technical issues with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications include a Degree in a scientific subject (Microbiology or Chemistry preferred), experience in a professional laboratory, leadership experience, hands-on knowledge of analytical instruments like ICP or GC-MS, understanding of accreditation schemes, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of H&S protocols.
