Why this role matters
This is a high profile role is accountable for managing the compaction and closure of our main legacy networks – PSTN, SDH/PDH, DPCN, X.25 and a number of smaller platforms, in line with agreed business timescales. The transformation and closure across these platforms is essential to BT goals and the programme is regularly reviewed by the Group SLT.
Leading a team of 80 people driving innovative technical and people approaches to closure. Delivery of the closure plan of record, managing issues, mitigating risks, and ensuring benefits are realised. Managing stakeholders at all levels across Networks, CFUs, Digital and Openreach.
The role holder also has operational accountability for the running of the platforms, working with the operations team and problem management team to ensure the correct levels of support, managed risk and SLAs are in place to provide customers with expected services levels during the migration and closure process.
In addition as part of the Connectivity Leadership Team and Fixed Network SMT you will be expected to take an active part in cross-unit transformation activities, taking a lead where appropriate, and interworking with other units to achieve common goals.
This role can be based in London, Manchester, Bristol or Birmingham and our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
You'll have the following responsibilities
• Accountable for delivering and shaping legacy platforms strategy to enable the achievement of the Connectivity Team’s goals
• Operational responsibility for delivery of customer, business and people outcomes and setting decision frameworks in line with business units plans.
• Delivering compaction and closure of our legacy platforms, working with the transformation lead and key stakeholders within Fixed Networks and across Group to ensure alignment with business-agreed timescales and to drive the right behaviours into the rest of the business
• Management and control of intrusive activities on or affecting the platform within timescales and to agreed standards, ensuring that Change Management/Planned Engineering Work is communicated, authorised and undertaken professionally
• Assessing security risks and putting in place mitigations. Sign-off security and regulatory compliance in line with agreed processes
• Delivering positive engagement and organisational health across the team, including resource planning, and team development.
You'll have the following skills and experience
Skills
• Stakeholder Management: Managing expectations and the level of stakeholder engagement. Ability to manage to complex political relationships in a variety of business and technical situations
• Transformational leadership : able to set a vision, inspire, bring new stimulation, challenge status quo, support and recognise teams as the transformation delivers
• Commercial Acumen: Drive cost transformation in the portfolio, including, cost of the team and solutions delivered in time and design issues related to budgets.
• Problem Solving: Solve problems that are complex and unknown and may lie outside the domain of the role. Problems may impact a single network platform and/or customer solution supporting multiple services. The most complex problem will be platform wide, impacting multiple services or cross-portfolio solutions.
Experience
People Leader (Mandatory): Experience in people management of diverse and multi-disciplinary teams including senior management roles. Able to confidently handle the full employee lifecycle, succession plan and create brilliant high performing teams.
Risk Management (Mandatory): Identifying risks, balancing the threats and opportunities associated with the risks. Taking appropriate mitigating action against the risk and tracking and managing risks over their lifetime.
Knowledge of network technology (Mandatory): Knowledge of network technology and technology introduction. Track record in transferring understanding between technology domains.
Managing the lifecycle of network platforms (Mandatory): Expert in managing the lifecycle of network platforms, including budgeting, stakeholder management, building strategic vendor partnership, third party working, UK and international regulatory compliance, working with standards bodies.
