Why this job matters
* This role is pivotal in expanding and securing our data ecosystem. You will lead efforts to discover, acquire and integrate external and internal data sources, ensuring they are governed, compliant and usable across our analytics and AI platforms.
* You will work closely with the GSS CTO and external partners to shape how data enters our environment and is transformed into decision‑ready services.
* You will collaborate with data scientists and system engineers to support the deployment of data pipelines and AI models onto our dedicated on‑premises private cloud infrastructure.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Identify, evaluate, and source company datasets; build relationships with internal teams to architect, build, and support data pipelines across GSS platforms.
* Enable data scientists by ensuring curated, well‑documented, high‑quality datasets.
* Partner with Data & AI Systems Engineers to develop optimal platforms, focusing on data engineering patterns, performance, governance, and cost.
* Support the commercial team in shaping data‑as‑a‑service offerings (subscription tiers, SLAs), translating technical capabilities into market‑able data products.
* Maintain data security, privacy and governance across all integration activities.
Essential Skills
* Data acquisition, data wrangling and data engineering fundamentals.
* Programming/scripting proficiency.
* Artificial intelligence / machine learning basics.
* Decision‑making and problem‑solving ability.
Desired Experience
* Led end‑to‑end sourcing and onboarding of external datasets (evaluation, contract hand‑off, ingestion build, SLAs, QA) in production environments.
* Experience with big‑data frameworks such as Spark or NiFi.
* Worked closely with platform/system engineers to land scalable data pipelines and storage layouts, contributing data‑engineering best practices and guardrails.
* Knowledge of data security, governance and compliance frameworks.

Location and Logistics
Primary location: Manchester, UK (also possible at Ipswich or Cheltenham). Onsite office based, 5 days per week, Monday‑Friday. 37.5 hours per week. You must be eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance before starting and be a UK resident for over 10 years.
