A client within the Public Sector based in Lancashire is currently recruiting for an Assistant Building Services Engineer to join their Building Design Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority in a Building Services or Building Design environment.
The Role
The key purpose of the role is to support, manage and deliver a range of Building Services Engineering tasks across the authority, ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, and statutory standards. The position is agile, requiring travel to various sites across Lancashire as and when needed. Outside of this, hybrid working is permitted.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Responding to reactive maintenance issues such as loss of heating, hot water, or electrical services, and instructing contractors accordingly.
• Managing small-scale Building Services projects, ensuring delivery within budget, time, and quality expectations.
• Supporting Building Service Engineers on larger and more complex projects.
• Providing technical guidance and support across the Building Design Team and wider Asset Management Service.
• Liaising proactively with other council departments and services to ensure effective project coordination.
• Acting as Duty Engineer on a rota system, providing a point of contact for reactive building service calls.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• A recognised vocational or professional qualification in Building Services (or working towards a professional qualification).
• Membership or working towards membership of a professional body such as CIBSE or IEE.
• Experience in Building Services reactive maintenance, ideally within the public sector.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Ability to work proactively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience managing small Building Services projects.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such is offering £22 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £20 per hour PAYE).
