Job Purpose
To make a leading contribution to data analysis development for the LISA gravitational wave observatory ground segment, working with Prof. Graham Woan within the LISA L01 and SIM Coordination Units. This job requires expert knowledge of Time Delay Interferometry and associated fields. The successful candidate will contribute to methods and code used to mitigate noise sources in Level 0.5 LISA data, produce Level 1 data for source parameter estimation, and simulate the LISA instrument. They will also participate in publishing research findings and contribute to project management and direction.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plan and conduct research aligned with project goals and strategies.
2. Collaborate with ESA and other stakeholders to advance the LISA Project.
3. Manage and develop the project, establishing external collaborations.
4. Develop software for noise mitigation in LISA L01 and SIM Units.
5. Document research outputs and maintain records.
6. Review literature and develop research strategies.
7. Present at conferences and seminars.
8. Identify funding opportunities and develop proposals.
9. Build collaborations within and outside the university.
10. Participate in meetings, seminars, and group activities.
11. Supervise and mentor students and junior staff.
12. Stay updated with advances in the field.
13. Pursue professional development.
14. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
15. Present research at high-profile events to enhance the group's profile.
16. Contribute to team management and increase research outputs.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
* PhD in a relevant field.
* Knowledge of current issues and future directions in LISA data analysis.
* Proficiency in Python.
* Deep knowledge of Time Delay Interferometry and noise mitigation (for Grade 8).
