We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mobile Library Driver/Assistant to join our Libraries and Communities team. The Libraries and Communities team is responsible for public library services across North Somerset. In this role, you will, under the general supervision of the Mobile Library supervisor, drive the Mobile Library and carry out tasks required to deliver library services to our rural areas when the regular driver is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Safely drive the Mobile Library vehicle in compliance with road transport laws and health and safety regulations.
* Conduct vehicle safety checks, ensuring it is in a fit and serviceable condition.
* Assist customers in accessing library services, including borrowing and returning materials, and providing information or referrals to other services.
* Administer and maintain records of library materials, including issuing and returning items using the Library Management System.
* Promote library services and engage with the community to encourage greater use of the facilities.
* Handle cash and other receipts, ensuring accurate recording and balancing in line with council procedures.
* Ensure the good order and tidiness of the Mobile Library, including shelving and organising materials.
* Compile and maintain statistics as required.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or the ability to provide an alternative, suitable method of travel, is an essential condition for this role. This position is based at our Library Distribution Centre in Clevedon.
About You
We are looking for an individual passionate about library services, possessing the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
* A clean, current LGV driving licence and evidence of CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence), or willingness to undertake this training.
* Practical experience in driving large vehicles and maintaining safe systems of work.
* Strong customer care skills with the ability to engage with a diverse range of people.
* Experience using computers and technology, including databases, email, and Microsoft Office.
* Ability to work flexibly, using your own initiative, and respond appropriately to challenging situations.
* Awareness of health and safety, data protection, and information governance policies.
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience working in a library or community service environment.
* Knowledge of library systems and procedures.
