Industrial Designer — Rotomolded Product, Exterior Design Refinement
Seeking an experienced industrial designer with rotomold-specific expertise to refine and finalize exterior geometry on a premium professional hardgoods product entering tooling phase.
Internal architecture is locked. All work is external shell, lid, and interface geometry, resolved to DFM-ready STEP/IGES for rotational molding tooling with an overseas manufacturer.
Scope includes:
Exterior body contour development and surface language
Integrated ergonomic handle design (load-bearing, gloved-hand use)
Hinge system design (lid-to-body, mechanical, robust)
Hardware mounting integration (latches, specified hardware)
Drain system routing through insulated wall assembly
Control panel and power inlet mounting zones (recess geometry, sealing, wire routing)
Cord management features
Tie-down/anchor point integration
Stackability features (lid-to-base registration)
Logo placement and integration method
Lid interior feature assessment
Design language is premium — rugged, clean, professional. Not commodity, not industrial. Think best-in-class outdoor hardgoods.
Requirements:
Portfolio showing rotomolded or similar thick-wall polymer product design
Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent, delivering STEP/IGES
Experience designing load-bearing handles, mechanical hinges, and sealed pass-throughs for molded products
Comfortable working within tight DFM constraints from an overseas manufacturer
Understanding of foam-core insulated wall assemblies and thermal barrier maintenance at penetration points
Ability to specify molded-in vs. post-mold machined features
Full project brief and CAD files provided after NDA. Budget $4,000–$8,000 depending on iteration scope. Timeline 3–5 weeks.
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months.
Mandatory skills: Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, 3D Design, Design for Manufacturing, Concept Design, 3D Product Rendering
