Directly responsible to:Policy Manager
Location: Office of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Lloyd House, Birmingham City Centre. Hybrid working with the expectation to attend Lloyd House, Birmingham, B4 6NQ for a minimum of 2 days a week.

This is an opportunity targeted at an individual with experience in the field of HR policy and research and/or significant experience of police officer and staff culture, training and recruitment. You should have excellent experience of working in collaboration to understand and test the narrative behind why targets from the PCC’s Police and Crime Plan around the quality, quantity and attributes of the police officer and staff base are or are not being met, and contributing constructively to their delivery or to bringing them back on target where this is not the case.
You need to be able to work as part of a team delivering the West Midlands Police and Crime Plan as well as on your own initiative, be able to undertake research, support & develop projects and initiatives which may cover a range of issues, and produce high quality briefings and reports. You should be comfortable working with numbers in relation to staffing information, both creating and interpreting it. You will need to demonstrate creative thinking, initiative and strategic awareness in the way you analyse issues and problem solve. You should have excellent communication and presentation skills and be comfortable articulating yourself in a range of forums to a range of stakeholders.
This is a very specific time-limited role and we need an individual who is conversant with the issues around police officer training, recruitment, vetting, posting and is committed to ensuring that the future police workforce in the West Midlands is culturally competent, and representative of the local population. An understanding of the Police Race Action Plan would be helpful.
