Medical Laboratory Associate Practitioner
Applicants are invited for the post of Medical Laboratory Associate Practitioner Band 4 within the Department of Microbiology at The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. This position is 37.5 hrs to be worked over a 7 day week including evening work and night shift
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will support technical staff in performing a wide range of scientific and technical procedures.
Participation in the Departmental Out of Hours rota will be required.The posts require a high level of attention to detail and an organised approach to work. At times you may also be required to work at other sites.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
Main responsibilities will include:
* Molecular testing for respiratory viruses
* Interpretation of culture screening procedures on chromagenic media e.g. MRSA screening
* To independently perform sensitivity tests under the direction of qualified staff.
* Processing of tissue and sterile fluids.
* Process samples of a high risk nature in the Category 3 accommodation.
* Operation of analysers e.g. Seegene Starlet, Cobas 6800, Maldi-Tof, UF5000, EntericBio and GeneXpert.
* Any further appropriate tasks which may otherwise have been performed by a qualified member of staff.
