There has never been a more exciting time to join our Acute Medicine department, with opportunities to manage patients in our in-patient and Same Day units. We are recruiting substantive Consultants in Acute Medicine to support the expanding service, both full time and part time applications will be considered. The successful candidates will support and develop services and pathways for our new Integrated Front Door and the Medical Assessment Unit, and will contribute to developing our Same Day Emergency Care offering and patient flow through Acute Medicine. Our team values strong collaboration with clinical, nursing and management colleagues and maintains close working relationships with supporting services including the Front Door Team, Frailty Team, and associated clinical specialties.
There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to receive a dedicated session (1 PA) to support subspecialty interests within the role.
Responsibilities
* Multidisciplinary team working with regular MDT discussions
* Provide evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary setting
* Maintain responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including administrative duties (with secretarial support)
* Develop subspecialty interests aligned with division needs and Trust strategy
* Teach, examine and contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activities
* Cover for Consultant colleagues during periods of leave as agreed within Trust policy
* Participate in clinical audit and continuing medical education
* Respond to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as required
* Participate in an out of hours consultant rota as detailed in the job plan
* Division-wide allocation of patients to Consultants as appropriate

Clinical Governance and Audit
All consultants are expected to participate in clinical effectiveness activities and lead improvements in clinical care. They should support clinical and medical leadership to achieve division objectives and uphold high standards of care.
Key activities include:
* Production of a Division clinical governance plan and quality strategy
* Division quarterly reports to the Clinical Governance and Risk Committee
* Adoption of evidence-based practice and NICE guidelines
* Establishment and implementation of a Division clinical audit programme
* Risk assessments and compliance with risk management policies
* Encouraging research and development
* Supporting workforce and education targets within the Trust annual plan
* Timely and effective complaints management and action plans
* Workforce planning to ensure clinical skills availability

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential: Fully registered with the GMC; MRCP (UK) or equivalent; Entry on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at interview
Experience Essential: Clinical training/experience equivalent to UK CCT; Expertise in a full range of medical conditions; Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and take full independent responsibility for clinical care; Sub-speciality interests supported
