We are seeking a committed and dynamic teacher to take on the dual role of Head of Year 7 and Year 7 Homeroom Teacher at our leading independent boarding school. This is a unique opportunity to combine high-impact pastoral leadership with classroom teaching, helping shape the academic, social and emotional journey of our Year 7 cohort in a supportive and values-driven environment.
The Role:
As Head of Year 7 (fixed term):
* Lead and support the wellbeing, pastoral care, academic journey, and personal development of all Year 7 students.
* Provide academic oversight to all core curriculum areas, including year-level curriculum planning, monitoring all of Year 7 progress, engagement, and classroom tone.
* Coordinate key Year 7 events, transitions, assemblies and interventions.
* Mentor Year 7 staff and collaborate with the wider pastoral and leadership teams.
* Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and stakeholders.
* Uphold high expectations for academia, behaviour, uniform, and school culture.
As Year 7 Homeroom Teacher:
* Deliver a well-rounded, engaging curriculum to a Year 7 class.
* Provide daily pastoral care and be the first point of contact for students and families.
* Foster a classroom environment that reflects the school’s values of leadership, aspiration, and engagement.
* Maintain strong relationships with students and colleagues to support learning and wellbeing.
About You:
We’re looking for an educator who:
* Is a registered teacher (or eligible for NZ Teaching Council registration).
* Has proven experience in pastoral care and/or year-level leadership.
* Brings energy, empathy, and structure to both the classroom and year-level leadership.
* Builds strong connections with students, staff and families.
* Is committed to continuous improvement and whole-child development.
