TPD - SITM and Advanced Training for Obs & Gynae
Within NHS England, South East Region, the Wessex Local Office is responsible for planning, development, education, and training of the healthcare and public health workforce across Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Salisbury.
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant with a strong interest in medical education and training to be the Director of Special Interest Training Modules (SITM) and Advanced training for Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Applications are invited from current STC members or those within the specialty demonstrating relevant interest in education and training.
The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of the training programme. For detailed responsibilities, please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification. The role involves working with the Head of School to lead various functions aligned with NHS England mandates.
Main duties of the job
The SITM Director will coordinate training opportunities within the region, manage trainee attachments, and ensure SITM training objectives are met. Responsibilities include maintaining quality standards using the RCOG Training Unit Quality Criteria and liaising regularly with SITM Preceptors at deanery level.
The role's operation depends on the deanery size and communication channels. Guidance should include:
* Availability of SITMs
* Regional selection process
* Handling excess training requests
Priority for SITM training will be given to NTN trainees requiring two SITMs for CCT registration. The Director may also serve as a Preceptor or Educational Supervisor, with appointments made competitively.

Job responsibilities
The role is funded with a fixed contribution of £10,000 per annum (0.5 EMC). Applicants should discuss this role with their local Director of Medical Education to ensure it functions as a secondment, with time allocated in their job plan and backfill arrangements confirmed. The Trust Director of Medical Education will provide a reference.
Note that NHSE will cease as a separate entity on 31/10/2026, with future arrangements to be clarified post-merger. The position may extend beyond this date.
