Tradewind Recruitment are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant SENDCO to join a thriving secondary school in the Wigan area from January 2026, covering a maternity leave. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated SEND specialist looking to further develop leadership experience within an established and highly supportive environment.
The Role - Assistant SENdCO
As Assistant SENCO, you will play a pivotal part in shaping an inclusive learning environment where every student can achieve their full potential. Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the strategic leadership of the SEND department
Coordinating provision for students with additional needs across KS3 and KS4
Working closely with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies
Leading on EHCP processes, interventions, and evidence gathering
Delivering staff CPD and supporting high-quality classroom practice
Monitoring progress, behaviour, and engagement of SEND learners
This role would suit a qualified teacher with strong SEND experience, an aspiring SENCO who has completed (or is working towards) the NASENCO qualification, or an established SEN practitioner ready to take on wider leadership responsibilities.
