Job summary
We are looking for highly motivated HCPC-registered Band 6 Biomedical Scientists to join the Immunology Team within the Laboratory Medicine Service at Swansea Bay University Health Board.
The Laboratory Medicine Service is a diverse service spread across four hospital sites in Swansea Bay in a hub (Morriston) and spoke (Singleton, Princess of Wales, and Neath/Port Talbot) model.
The Laboratory Medicine Team aims to modernize our service by embracing new ways of working, developing our knowledge and skills, and actively fostering a professional multidisciplinary team that provides a 24/7, year-round service for our patients.
The Immunology Laboratory is well equipped with equipment from suppliers such as Werfen, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Aesku, and Euroimmun.
Ideally, the post holder will have existing knowledge and skills in specialist immunology techniques. However, applications are welcome from candidates interested in developing their knowledge and skills in Immunology and wider specialist analytics techniques.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Band 6 BMS, you will provide a comprehensive Immunology service to aid effective diagnosis and treatment, ensuring abnormal results are acted upon urgently. You will deputize for senior staff and assist in training and supervising junior team members.
The Immunology Service currently operates from 7 to 5, Monday to Friday. A flexible approach to working hours is required as this may expand to a 24/7 service in the future, alongside other specialist sections. Any out-of-hours work for other disciplines should not impact Immunology services.
About Annex 21
Only candidates who have successfully completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma will be considered for the full Specialist BMS Band 6 position. This must be clearly indicated on your application. Candidates without full qualifications may be considered for a trainee position under Annex 21, with the condition that the required qualifications are achieved.
