University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the Head of Organisational Development. This role delivers key components of our people strategy, ensuring a culture of excellence and belonging across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Engage with the Director of Education, Training and Workforce to champion organisational development initiatives. Lead the OD team, embed the Leadership Framework, enhance staff engagement programmes, provide operational support for Inclusion and Belonging Strategy, and deliver evidence‑based interventions that meet business needs.
Communicate creatively and partner with staff at all levels to embed OD practices that strengthen leadership, inclusion, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Job responsibilities
* Design and deliver evidence‑based OD interventions, including leadership development, inclusion, staff engagement, and cultural improvement.
* Provide expert OD advice and thought leadership across the People agenda to support strategic and operational priorities.
* Lead and manage the OD team, influence leaders at all levels, and coordinate with external providers.
* Apply diagnostics, analytics and translate findings into organisational solutions across multiple levels and complexities.
* Drive organisational‑wide cultural transformation programmes and monitor their impact.
* Horizon scan and proactively future‑plan OD initiatives.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Masters level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
* Organisational Development qualification or postgraduate evidence of managing change within complex environments.
* Extensive experience leading OD in large, multi‑faced organisations.
* Proven capability to influence leaders, manage teams and engage external partners.
* Strong analytical skills and use of OD diagnostics to inform actions.
* Evidence of recent continuing professional development relevant to leadership, learning and OD.
* Experience in procurement and management of external providers.
* Budget management experience.
* Deep understanding of contemporary leadership and organisational development theories.
* Track record of inclusive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion interventions within large organisations.
* CIPD Chartered Fellow or Member (or equivalent).
* Accreditation in psychometric tools or BPS Level A/B training.
* PGCE or equivalent in teaching and learning methodologies (optional but desirable).

Salary
£79,504 to £91,609 a year, pro rata
