Maintenance Engineer (Electrical / Mechanical) Leeds £35,000 - £45,000 basic Role Overview We’re seeking a proactive and hands-on Maintenance Engineer (Electrical / Mechanical) to take ownership of plant reliability and equipment performance within a growing UK manufacturing business. You’ll be responsible for keeping a modern production facility running smoothly — balancing reactive repairs with the development of structured preventative maintenance routines. Company Overview Our client is a UK-based manufacturer of premium upholstered furniture and bedding products, operating from a modern, well-equipped site in the Leeds area. The company continues to grow through investment in automation, product innovation, and operational efficiency. As part of this expansion, they are establishing a dedicated maintenance function — offering the right engineer the chance to make a visible impact and shape how maintenance is delivered across the site. Key Responsibilities * Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all machinery and supporting equipment. * Respond efficiently to breakdowns, carrying out electrical and mechanical fault finding. * Support installation, relocation, and commissioning of new machinery and systems. * Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, service history, and asset performance. * Drive improvements in reliability, efficiency, and safety through engineering initiatives. * Manage stock of critical spare parts and liaise with suppliers to ensure timely availability. * Conduct equipment safety checks and ensure all work complies with health and safety standards. * Contribute to Lean and continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and increasing output. Candidate Background * Recognised qualification in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent apprenticeship). * Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing environment. * Strong diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical systems. * Able to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics. * Good understanding of motors, drives, PLCs, sensors, pneumatics, and automation systems. * Self-motivated, organised, and confident working independently and collaboratively. * (Desirable) 18th Edition certification, experience with CMMS systems, or background in textile, upholstery, or packaging machinery.
