PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
• As part of our on-going AG2030 growth strategy, we are looking for an Associate to join the London Infrastructure, Projects & Energy team and help service their ever-growing roster of clients in social infrastructure, transport and energy PFI/PPPs, and infrastructure asset management.
• Addleshaw Goddard's infrastructure projects and energy practice is known for its quality and breadth of expertise and has top rankings in Legal 500 and Chambers for Water, Transport, Local Government and Health.
• You will be working closely with the partners, the London IPE Fee Earning team as well as the larger IPE team located across our UK and international offices.
THE TEAM
• As one of most established multi-disciplinary teams of any law firm, we give clients the confidence they need to succeed. The team advises funds, developers, asset managers, operators, financial institutions, energy and utility companies, service providers, building contractors, central and local government and NHS Trusts on the full life cycle of innovative, complex projects, which are frequently in the headlines.
• The team places a high emphasis on their transactional expertise and are able to bring a commercial and business-orientated approach to a wide range of work in markets as diverse as healthcare, defence, water, large scale outsourcing, renewable energy and transport, in the UK and all over the world. We frequently advise on novel and "first in class" projects.
• The team advises on complex social infrastructure schemes spanning multiple sectors including healthcare, education, housing, leisure and regeneration, and local government, nationally and internationally, on projects such as the Department of Health and Social Care in relation to its Neighbourhood Health Centre Procurement Programme, Turks and Caicos Islands Government on its Hospital PPP, the first healthcare PPP in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a new hospital in Indonesia, purchasing care homes, advising on commercialising IP for NHS Trusts, Salford City Council's £80m social housing regeneration project, a prominent North West University on its complex student accommodation redevelopment and a number of high profile private hospitals on the procurement of services arrangements with the NHS.
• As this shows, we have a fantastic variety of work. It's not just big ticket, high pressure transactions though – we also do a whole range of smaller matters, providing a great arena for mid-level associates to gain experience and take the lead in a supportive environment. There is an opportunity to specialise, or gain experience in, many different areas.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE ROLE
• You will be immersed in a dynamic practice specialising in social infrastructure PFI/PPP projects, as well as infrastructure asset management and wider concession work. You will gain exposure to a wide range of matters domestically and internationally. advising on projects in sectors such as health, education, social housing, transport and leisure.
• Your work will focus on supporting private sector participants—including sponsors/borrowers, funders, contractors and service providers—throughout the lifecycle of PPP/PFI projects. You will act for high-profile clients, becoming a trusted adviser on complex and high-value matters.
• Advise bidding consortia on new PPP projects and support service providers and equity investors through all phases of infrastructure asset management.
• Advise on technical aspects such as handback/expiry of PFI projects, defect remediation, and variations to project agreements.
• You will be part of a team with a strong reputation for delivering pragmatic, commercial advice and will develop a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the PPP/PFI sector. This role offers the opportunity to build longstanding client relationships and play a key role in the successful delivery and management of critical public infrastructure projects.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Have at least 2years PQE + experience ideally within an Infrastructure, Projects & Energy setting.
• Experience handling Concession Agreements and managing the flow down of risk on long-term infrastructure projects.
• Have enthusiasm, resilience, and ambition to find solutions to clients' legal challenges and requirements.
• Be experienced in engaging with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
• Adopt a consultative and thorough approach to tasks.
• Maintain efficient diary and task management across a range matters, ensuring the accuracy and levels of client service expected within a high performing team.
• Be confident in drafting clear and legally effective documents, which reflect the client's instructions.
• Remain calm and optimistic in time sensitive situations or under pressure.
• Be enthusiastic about the development of your legal skill set and continuous learning.
• Be inquisitive and want to understand our clients, their drivers and what matters to them, so that your advice has quality, imagination, and impact.
