Job Overview
Purpose of the Role: You will ensure the safety and security of staff and customers within the working environment. Responsibilities include securing premises, patrolling malls, service areas, back‑of‑house, car parks and site perimeter, maintaining health and safety regulations, aiding guests, and administering first aid where qualified.
Main Duties
* Maintain personal appearance and hygiene at all times.
* Start shift promptly and in full uniform.
* Communicate clearly during shift changeovers and briefings.
* Uphold Mitie team values and standards.
* Coordinate with retailers on security matters.
* Assist on‑site police with crime prevention and detection.
* Prevent unauthorised personnel from entering Bluewater.
* Conduct regular patrols, including:
o Check vulnerable points of the perimeter, ensuring all exits are secure.
o Perform internal and external building patrols.
o Adhere to health & safety points during patrols, reporting breaches.
o Identify suspicious activities, people, and vehicles.
o Follow Assignment Instructions for area checks.
* Detect and prevent fire, water leaks, and other safety hazards; keep fire exits and equipment clear.
* Check for unauthorised personnel in sensitive areas and verify ID and work permits of contractors.
* Search bags and belongings of sub‑contractors and cleaners as per client instructions.
* Search visitors at the discretion of the client.
* Provide escort duties.
* Remove unattended valuables for safekeeping.
* Monitor movements of cleaners and sub‑contractors.
* Supervise cleaning of sensitive areas and private offices.
* Report incidents to the Security Control Centre and log them in the Daily Occurrence Book.
* Carry out other duties as appropriate to the post.
What We Are Looking For
Essential: Experience working as part of a team, knowledge of health and safety legislation and policy, SIA licence for all relevant areas, and first‑aid qualification.
Desirable: Retail experience, previous security role, flexible scheduling (including weekends & bank holidays), willingness to undertake further training.
