Overview
Role: Sales Director - Timber Building Products / Head of Sales - Timber Building Products
Industry: Timber processing, sawn timber, timber frame housing, engineered roof trusses, pallet & packaging case material, fencing products, structural carcassing sections.
Area: UK & Ireland — ideally based near an airport. Benefits include Hybrid Car and benefits package.
Responsibilities
* Field sales management position responsible for the sawn timber revenue within the client group (not responsible for timber frame and energy sales teams).
* Approximately 70% of time focused on driving sales revenue through buying groups and builders merchants.
* Lead, mentor, train, and develop 4 area sales managers and two internal sales managers in GB, plus a dedicated Ireland Sales Manager (who in turn manages 3 ASMs and an internal sales manager) and a sales operations manager.
* Responsible for the sales function with combined timber sales of €275 million.
* Approximately 30% of time on key account management of large buying group builders merchant customers, as well as driving sales strategy and sales plans at board level.
* Travel to sawn timber sites in Ireland/Northern Ireland and Scotland, typically monthly.
* Joint visits with field sales team nationally; likely to spend 3–4 days on the road each week across the UK, hence extensive travel.
* Inheriting a well-established, growing sales team.
* Key position within the leadership team, responsible for sales strategy and sales plans.
* Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with key accounts and buying groups.
Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years of field sales management experience.
* Proven track record of hitting revenue targets and growing sales teams.
* Timber or construction industry knowledge.
* Open to most building product backgrounds.
* Experience managing or selling into buying groups or builders merchants; ideally with relationships with Fortis, H&B, NGB, MKM, etc.
* Willing to travel extensively throughout the UK & Ireland.
* Passion, drive, and hunger to succeed; natural leader and brand ambassador for the business.
* Mentor and trainer of sales staff; assertive with ability to influence the sales team.
* Business degree or relevant equivalent qualification preferred.
