Patient Services Advisor (Receptionist) – Wincanton, Somerset


Overview

Symphony Healthcare Services has a permanent vacancy for a Patient Services Advisor at Wincanton Health Centre. The role involves assisting patients in person and by phone, managing appointments, handling repeat prescriptions, providing administrative support, and maintaining a welcoming reception environment. Tasks include registering patients, processing correspondence, and assisting with other administrative duties to ensure the smooth operation of the practice.


Responsibilities

* Provide courteous, calm and effective communication with patients and staff in a fast-paced health centre, over the phone and face-to-face.
* Deliver administration and reception duties, including registering patients, directing patients to appropriate services or healthcare professionals, and undertaking a variety of administrative tasks in accordance with agreed procedures, protocols and timescales.
* Work accurately and prioritise own workload while working as part of a team and meeting deadlines.
* Proactively alert management/clinical staff to issues of quality, risk and safeguarding as part of daily duties.
* Utilise IT skills and packages such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, etc.).
* Knowledge of NHS/General Practice is desirable but not essential.


Essential Qualifications and Skills

* English & Maths GCSE or equivalent (grade A*-D / 9-3).
* Experience of working within a team and following standard policies and procedures.
* Excellent keyboard and computer literacy; good organisational skills.
* Ability to listen carefully and communicate effectively and sensitively (verbal and written) with patients and staff at a range of levels.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage interruptions with attention to detail.


Desirable Knowledge and Experience

* Knowledge of medical terminology.
* Knowledge of the NHS / General Practice.
* Experience of working in NHS or healthcare settings and EMIS or similar clinical systems.
* Experience in an administration team within NHS or healthcare.


Other Requirements

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975; a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.

* Location: Wincanton Health Centre, Dykes Way, Wincanton, Somerset, BA9 9FQ
* Employment type: Permanent, Part-time
* Working pattern: 27 hours per week, Monday to Friday (days to be discussed at interview)
