Engineering Consultant (6 month+ contract)
Location: Aldershot (On-site, full-time)
Contract Length: 6 months initially, likely extension to 9+ months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Consultant to join a growing GMP pharmaceutical site in Aldershot. The site is undergoing significant expansion, including new and upgraded facilities.
This is a highly visible, on-site position requiring someone who can hit the ground running, operate autonomously, and drive engineering activity forward without relying on heavy oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and execute CAPEX and engineering projects, including expansions, new site builds, facility conversions, and equipment installations.
* Drive engineering activity from concept through to commissioning and handover.
* Manage contractors, suppliers, and external engineering partners.
* Ensure project delivery aligns with GMP requirements and site quality standards.
* Work closely with Operations, Quality, and Site Engineering to maintain project momentum.
* Provide hands-on support and visibility on the shop floor — this is not a desk-only or purely planning role.
* Support documentation, URS, risk assessments, work packs, and technical reporting.
* Troubleshoot engineering challenges and coordinate practical solutions in real time.
Experience & Background
Essential:
* Strong background in GMP pharmaceutical engineering.
* Experience delivering CAPEX, Engineering Projects, or Project Engineering within regulated manufacturing.
* Able to operate independently and bring immediate impact.
* Comfortable being hands-on when required — supporting practical engineering tasks, site walkthroughs, or troubleshooting.
* On-site presence is essential; this is not a remote or hybrid consultancy contract.
* Must be available within 4 weeks (max.) — no long notice periods.
Desirable (Higher Rate Justification):
* Experience working in sterile/aseptic pharmaceutical facilities.
* Knowledge of cleanroom design, utilities (HVAC, purified water, compressed air), or lab expansions.
Beneficial (not essential):
* Previous experience in equipment installation, commissioning, or mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
* Any practical engineering background complementing project delivery.
