Overview
Laboratory Manager - Adult Histopathology at our Oxford Road site. Lead the Histopathology laboratory service, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and safe operations. Collaborate with the Clinical Director, Cellular Pathology General Manager, Lead Healthcare Scientist, and Clinical Leads to oversee the department and drive development.
As Histopathology evolves, we are implementing new equipment (X120 Rapid Processors with A120 Automated Embedder) to improve workflows. We recently secured funding to install an Axlab AS-410M Slide Preparation System (to be installed in early 2026). You will be central to these initiatives and supported by the Cellular Pathology Senior Leadership Team, including the Cellular Pathology General Manager, Lead Healthcare Scientist for Histopathology, and Advanced BMS staff.
We are seeking a visionary leader with excellent communication skills and a management qualification, or demonstrated developed management skills. HCPC registered, you will have substantial Histopathology experience, awareness of current pathology service issues, health and safety legislation, and UKAS standards. You should be a strategic leader who can drive modernisation with financial efficiency, and possess the tactical ability to understand the NHS financial position and implement innovative changes to keep the department at the forefront of Pathology.

Responsibilities
* Oversee the operation and development of the Histopathology laboratory service at the Oxford Road site, ensuring high quality, efficient, and safe service delivery.
* Manage a multidisciplinary team, motivate staff, and maintain department finances; drive performance and continuous improvement.
* Lead modernisation initiatives, including implementation of new equipment and workflows, in collaboration with senior leadership and clinical leads.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, UKAS standards, and relevant NHS policies.
* Develop and communicate strategic objectives, monitor performance, and deliver financial responsibility within the NHS context.
Qualifications
* HCPC registration with significant Histopathology experience.
* Strong communication and leadership skills with strategic and tactical capabilities.
* Experience in financial management and driving service modernisation within a NHS setting.
* Ability to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team and clinical leads.
