Job Title: Operations Engineer – Field-Based | Location: Field-Based (Midlands to South)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Operations Engineer with hands‑on experience in maintaining and optimising large mechanical/electrical plant or power generation equipment. This field‑based role is key to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of assets across multiple sites. You will take ownership of routine and reactive engineering tasks, including servicing, major overhauls, stock control, and supporting operational teams to maintain high performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Operational Performance: Oversee the performance and availability of plant and equipment across a regional portfolio; drive high uptime and efficient operation.
* Servicing & Maintenance: Carry out scheduled inspections, servicing, diagnostics, and fault‑finding on large mechanical/electrical systems (e.g. engines, generators, energy systems, or similar).
* Major Overhauls: Lead or support significant maintenance activities such as engine rebuilds, component replacements, and system upgrades.
* Call‑Outs & Repairs: Respond to out‑of‑hours breakdowns on a rotational basis; diagnose and resolve faults to minimise downtime.
* Stock & Inventory: Manage critical spare parts, tools, and consumables to support efficient field operations across multiple sites.
* Operational Collaboration: Work closely with central operations teams and site personnel to plan maintenance, implement improvements, and ensure full compliance with safety procedures.
* Partner Coordination: Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, and service partners to coordinate technical support and maintenance activities.
* Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate service records, risk assessments, and compliance documentation in line with company and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience working with large mechanical, electrical, or power generation systems (e.g. gas engines, generators, industrial plant, or similar).
* Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
* Experience in servicing, overhauls, and fault resolution.
* Familiarity with stock management or spare parts logistics.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally/nationally.
* Right to work in the UK.
* Experience managing or supporting a portfolio of distributed assets or field‑based equipment.
* OEM or manufacturer training/certifications in relevant technologies.
* Basic understanding of control/monitoring systems (e.g. COMAP, SCADA, PLC, BMS).
* IOSH or other health & safety qualifications.

This is a field‑based role involving travel to multiple industrial, commercial, and utility‑scale sites. Some overnight stays may be required. You’ll be part of a collaborative operations team with regular support from our client's HQ in Hampshire.
