About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join the Paediatric Diabetes Team to cover a maternity post as a Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Specialist Educator at CUH in Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital. This post is ideal for experienced Band 6 or Band 7 nurses with a background in paediatric diabetes, service and policy development who are looking to further gain skills in management of diabetes technology and holistic patient management.
Key responsibilities
* Provide specialist advice, support and education to other staff and students, including the provision of specialist education and training.
* Implement a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care, encompassing new treatments and evidence‑based care.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence‑based policies, protocols and guidelines within the specialty in collaboration with other professional groups and users; propose changes to working practices or procedures for own work area.
* Manage own caseload of patients and run nurse‑led clinics, including allocation to MDT clinics to support CYP with management and ongoing education.
* Start and review patients on Hybrid closed‑loop systems and continuous glucose monitors using various downloading platforms.
* Provide expert specialist clinical advice for patients, carers and health‑care professionals in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Take part in out‑of‑hours cover as part of the East of England Diabetes Network consortia and project work within the Network.
Required qualifications and experience
* Band 6 or Band 7 clinical nurse with proven experience in paediatric diabetes care.
* Background in service development, policy implementation and diabetes technology management.
* Recognised expert in the specialty, with strong communication and teaching skills.
