This role is responsible for the full day-to-day running of Rutland Nursery. You will lead the whole Rutland Nursery team, ensuring the site works effectively, is properly staffed, offers a great experience for customers, and leads on trends and retail opportunities. Close attention to balancing budgets and profitability will be vital. It should also be a great place to work, where people are respected and helped to develop. Working very closely with the Founding Director, this role will not only be responsible for the full operation of the business, but will work with the Founding Directors to align the operation with the three-year plan. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The General Manager is responsible for the full day-to-day running of Rutland Nursery Commercial & Operational Budget delivery for all areas of the business, reporting regularly to Founding Director and Board Manage sales budgets and forecasts, and achieve agreed targets Total responsibility for staffing, overseeing all managers and RN’s organisational structure Under the direction of the Founding Director, help establish a short-, medium- and long-term strategy of growth and profitability for the business Be a champion for customer experience Develop clear plans for each department and targets agreed Develop clear customer-focused pathways for improving ATV and brand loyalty Under the direction of the Founding Director, maintain good links with suppliers and external consultants Active management of all senior managers, ensuring all targets are met and staffing requirements filled Regular feedback to Founding Director of opportunities for change and competitor analysis Identify trends in other retail environments that RN should consider Customer & People Lead and motivate the whole RN team Champion staff training and lead its implementation Establish a clear and constructive management team where roles and responsibilities are clearly defined Embed RN’s values and behaviours for all staff and customers Create and deliver superb customer experience and sales training tools for the team Gather customer feedback regularly and implement changes to improve products and services SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential leading a multi-business retail commercial operation leadership and management of a large team development of customer experience and staff development full budget responsibility target setting for individuals and teams brilliant people and communication skills understanding different sectors and their commercial opportunities all Microsoft software, especially Excel Desirable working in the gardening or horticultural sector working for a family business VALUES AND BEHAVIOURS Our brand idea is ‘ in our nature’, and our purpose is ‘to excite, inspire and equip our customers with nature’s possibilities’.
