Overview
The Shift Manager will be responsible for leading and managing production operations during their allocated shift to achieve efficient, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing. The role ensures production targets are met in line with budget, while maintaining compliance with quality standards, food safety, and Health & Safety regulations. The Shift Manager will play a key role in motivating, developing, and supporting the shift team to deliver outstanding results.
Shift Manager responsibilities include:
* Ensure all products are manufactured in compliance with food safety standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HACCP, BRC).
* Drive continuous improvement in production processes and machine line efficiencies to support KPI achievement (OEE, wastage, mass balance, etc.).
* Ensure strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and Health & Safety standards, fostering a safe working environment.
* Minimise downtime and deliver against production KPIs and Continuous Improvement targets.
* Manage and control labour resources to achieve labour efficiency targets, ensuring correct manning levels and optimum skills mix.
* Lead, train, and manage production operatives, maintaining an up-to-date training matrix to ensure skills coverage across the shift.
* Review, improve, and maintain training, quality, cleaning, and safe systems of work records and procedures; ensure all documentation is current and audit-ready.
* Complete accurate production records and ensure reporting standards are consistently met.
* Provide effective line management for production shift personnel, ensuring absence levels and performance KPIs are achieved.
