Job Title: Design Engineer
As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems, as well as improve the performance and efficiency of existing products.
Qualifications: Candidates should ideally have a degree and a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. However, candidates with other qualifications and significant engineering design experience may also qualify for the role within SDC.
Responsibilities:
1. Design - Convert research ideas into detailed production designs and re-engineer existing designs for manufacturing efficiency.
2. Reporting - Prepare engineering reports, production specifications, and drawings.
3. Compliance - Ensure designs meet trailer legislation and safety standards.
4. Mentoring - Support junior engineers and participate in design reviews.
5. Continuous Improvement - Apply lean manufacturing principles to enhance working practices.

Candidate requirements:
* Strong problem-solving skills and teamwork abilities.
* Practical, hands-on approach.
* Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software (preferably Autodesk) and MS Office.
* Knowledge of computer systems relevant to the role.
* Understanding of stress/loading calculations, FEA, fatigue stress, and induced stress.
* Familiarity with engineering and design principles.
* Knowledge of trailer manufacturing processes or similar heavy engineering.
* Awareness of customer needs and design cost impacts.
* Willingness to work outside normal hours when necessary.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to produce high-quality designs.
* Honesty, punctuality, dependability, and adherence to health and safety policies.
