Overview

Job summary
As the Community Engagement Officer for Your Health Stockports Health Improvement and Weight Management Service, you will lead local engagement across Stockport, promoting the service through outreach, events, and social media. You will build strong relationships with partners, including the VCFSE sector, GP practices, and community services, to increase referrals and raise awareness. We are looking for someone who is passionate, organised, and experienced in community settings, able to work independently and as part of a team, with support from ABLs experienced, multidisciplinary team.


Main duties

* Promote and develop the Your Health Stockport service through community engagement, partnership building, and contribution to service delivery.
* Implement the ABL Community Engagement Strategy and contribute to the Communications Plan with support from the communications team.
* Build and maintain relationships with local services and partners to raise awareness, generate referrals, and explore co-production opportunities.
* Collaborate with Project Leads and operational teams to support referral activity and identify new referral routes.
* Represent the service at local meetings and events, occasionally presenting to groups.
* Input into service development using data, feedback, and engagement insight.
* Maintain the partnership database and provide regular engagement updates in team meetings and reports.
* Support communications efforts such as public events, training sessions, and social media, with some evening or weekend availability as needed.
* Work flexibly across the wider Your Health Stockport team, including support with service delivery if required.

Role Responsibilities

Role Purpose: You will be the Community Engagement Officer, covering Stockport for Your Health Stockports Health Improvement and Weight Management Service. You will lead on community engagement and drive awareness through promotions, social media and engagement activities, increasing referrals by building long-lasting relationships with local partners and stakeholders, including leisure services, the VCFSE sector, community services, GP practices and children’s services.

You will be a motivated, passionate, organised and proactive communicator with experience in a community setting. Our approach is strengths-focused and asset-based, aiming to innovate and partner rather than replicate existing delivery. The role requires dynamic working aligned with the IWS vision and values for helping people achieve healthy lifestyles. No two days are the same; you should be comfortable working with the team and independently with new people if highly organised.

This is a demanding role, but you will be supported by ABL’s experienced multidisciplinary team of health and social care professionals, business intelligence, service development, governance, finance and business development, plus existing delivery teams to help drive the service forward.

Person Specification

Experience (Essential):

* At least 3 years experience in a community setting.
* Experience of working in a health care environment.
* Demonstrable experience of partnership working.
* Demonstrable experience of speaking to large groups.

Desirable:

* Experience in a leadership role.
* Previous experience of delivering training programmes.
* Experience of delivering focus groups.
* Experience of public speaking.
* Experience of partnership working/collaborating with various different organisations.


Qualifications

Essential:

* Degree and/or equivalent experience in community healthcare, community development, or business development.

Desirable:

* CIMSPA (previously REPS) qualified Level 2 Gym instructor/Group exercise award or equivalent.
