Vacancy at Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for a Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist, or an experienced Band 5 therapist who wants to progress. The successful candidate will work predominantly with adults with acquired and progressive neurological conditions, providing specialist assessment and therapy to patients referred to the Doncaster Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team, the Neurological Rehabilitation Outreach Team and general community caseloads (including care homes). We also receive referrals from physical and mental health inpatient wards.
The role involves working independently and as part of a wider team across a variety of settings, including patients’ own homes, care homes, inpatient wards and outpatient clinic. The successful candidate must be competent in the assessment and management of dysphagia or be working towards completion of a recognised postgraduate qualification/competency.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist support to adult patients/service users, including support with alternative and augmentative communication aids.
* Ensure well‑coordinated, integrated care plans for individual patients/service users.
* Participate fully in multidisciplinary teams, drawing on specialist knowledge/experience.
* Contribute to service and policy development.
* Advise line manager on service delivery, pressures and future needs.
* Supervise and delegate work, providing clinical support to a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Junior Speech and Language therapists and generic Rehabilitation Assistants.
* Represent speech and language therapy at relevant meetings as required.
* Attend and contribute to departmental team meetings and AHP network meetings.
Preferred Skills
* Knowledge of AAC systems would be beneficial.
