Consultant Colorectal Surgeon

Job Summary
The role supports the on‑call rota with increased consultant on‑site involvement, focusing on advanced minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery. The appointee will work alongside 8 consultant colleagues in the Lower GI surgical unit, managing general surgical emergencies and complex colorectal procedures.
Main Duties
* Co‑manage 250+ colonic cancer resections, >90% minimally invasive.
* Provide robotic colorectal and endometriosis services, including robotic CME and IPAA mentoring.
* Attend bi‑monthly IBD MDT and support IBD surgery audit.
* Participate in complex abdominal wall reconstruction and intestinal failure support.
* Deliver 30% of the district case complexity workload, including emergency laparoscopic and robotic resections.
* Provide on‑call general surgery service, covering vascular, head injury, paediatric and interventional radiology emergencies as required.
* Support multidisciplinary teams (gynaecology, urology, plastic surgery) for pelvic floor, endometriosis and reconstruction cases.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
* FRCS or equivalent.
* Higher degree/post‑graduate thesis (desirable).
Experience
* Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months), CESR or European Community Right.
* Evidence of an advanced colorectal fellowship.
* JAG accreditation for lower GI endoscopy.
* Trained in general surgery, able to manage common surgical emergencies.
* Experience in robotic colorectal surgery (desirable).
* Knowledge of JAG or NICE guidance and audit participation.

Employment Details
Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per year (Hospital medical and dental staff). Grade: Consultant. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time.
Location: Queen Alexandra Hospital, Southwick Hill Road, Cosham, Portsmouth.
