SCOPE OF POSITION The Mechanic is responsible for carrying out skilled mechanical maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and servicing of vehicles including Light goods and heavy goods vehicles, plant and associated mobile equipment to ensure operational safety, reliability, and compliance with UK statutory requirements. Working under the supervision of the Workshop Manager, the role involves working on complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems primarily in the workshop with occasional travel to the field in the event of a breakdown. Main Duties and Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles to manufacturer and regulatory standards. Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections in line with manufacturer and regulatory standards such as DVSA. Identify and rectify faults in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals. Maintain accurate service, inspection, and maintenance records in accordance with company and legal obligations. Ensure all vehicles and equipment are roadworthy, compliant, and safe for use, reporting defects and maintaining a proactive maintenance culture. Prepare, test, and mobilise field equipment and vehicles for operational deployment. Contribute to maintaining an efficient, safe, and organised workshop environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures. Work collaboratively with the workshop and projects team, supporting the efficient delivery of projects with minimal downtime. May be required to work overtime and undertake occasional travel and overnight stays when required to support company operations on project sites i.e., to attend onsite break downs. Skill Level: NVQ Level 3 Motor Vehicles Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Essential: Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, transmissions, hydraulics, and vehicle electrics. Competent in mechanical diagnostics. Understanding of workshop safety, vehicle compliance, and maintenance best practices.
