Job Summary
Applications are invited from suitable candidates who wish to join the Radiology Department in the position of Porter. The role operates 7 days a week with an extended working day from 8am to 6am. We have several posts available.
The department team consists of full‑time and part‑time porters. Vacancies are rare, offering an opportunity to join a friendly team of porters and radiographic staff.
Applicants must have good communication skills, be neatly presented and be willing to work as part of a team. The role is very physical involving manual and patient handling/moving tasks. Previous experience working with the public and in a hospital setting is preferable.
Main Duties
* Assist in the moving and transfer of patients as required in the x‑ray, CT, MRI and Ultrasound examination rooms (including pat‑sliding and log rolling following appropriate training).
* Carry out miscellaneous errands between departments and wards, including a messenger service if required.
* Maintain x‑ray wheelchairs and trolleys (including MRI‑compatible specialist transfer equipment). Ensure fitness for use, report faults and arrange temporary replacement equipment during repairs.
* Ensure a high standard of cleanliness of transport equipment in line with infection prevention and control policy and procedure.
* Move furniture and equipment as required.
* Take reasonable care and precautions to prevent damage and accidents to staff and equipment.
* Use initiative to enable an efficient service, with awareness of implications of delays in patient transfer.
* Report any equipment faults to a senior member of radiographic staff.
* Be polite and respectful to patients, ensuring dignity at all times.
* Reassure patients and relatives while transporting them, ensuring basic care needs are attended to.
* Maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.

Job Responsibilities

Person Specification
Experience (Essential)
* Ability and willingness to work as part of a team and accept feedback.
* Ability to move heavy equipment.
* Proven experience of working with the general public.
Experience (Desirable)
* Previous portering experience in a hospital setting.
Knowledge (Essential)
* Basic numerical and literacy skills.
