Quality Technician
Location: Shropshire
Company: Severn Trent Water Limited
Department: Water Quality & Environment
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Our Water Quality and Environment team have opportunities for you to join as our new Quality Technician - we have both a full‑time and a fixed‑term contract opportunity available.
In your new role, you will be responsible for assuring public health by carrying out planned and unplanned water‑sampling activity at customer properties to achieve the highest standard of water quality.
Excellent customer service is essential as you will be responding to and helping resolve issues raised by customers or the public. Problem‑solving and navigating through other departments within Severn Trent is key. The role will involve detailed knowledge of water‑quality standards, sites and sampling points to identify issues that can then be escalated and managed using various techniques.
The role is accredited to ISO17025, which requires stringent quality‑control checks and accurate record keeping. Therefore, attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
You will start from home and then complete your scheduled route to drop your samples off at your designated base.
If you’re passionate about clean water, you could make a difference to many people’s lives – read on.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
* Undertaking on‑site analysis and sampling of drinking water and associated samples from water‑treatment works, service reservoirs, routine customer calls and other sampling points using aseptic techniques.
* Being aware of the environment and the impact on the representative nature of samples taken, and how this may affect company metrics (e.g., MZC/CRI).
* Completing on‑site assessments of internal plumbing to identify filters, softeners and other factors that may affect samples, and making on‑site decisions about next steps. You will be COSSH trained to prevent or reduce exposure to hazardous substances.
You’ll also need to exercise judgment and balance in the tools you use for these activities, the risks & impacts to customers, the general public, and road‑traffic users, and you will need to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and company standards at all times.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re seeking a Quality Technician who can complete dynamic risk assessments and proactively implement controls to ensure work can be conducted safely.
To be successful, you’ll have a current UK driving licence, be travelling around, and ideally have experience driving commercial vehicles.
You’ll have experience working outdoors in various weather conditions and livestock environments, excellent communication skills, and will be comfortable with some lone working, even though you will be part of a team.
This role works 37 hours a week, Monday–Friday. Working hours are 07:00–15:00 on all days except Friday (07:00–14:30). A standby requirement and alternate shift pattern (10:00–18:00) may apply. The role is based at Shelton, Welshpool Road, Shrewsbury, SY3 8BJ.
The right skills and experience are important, but if you have the right character, positivity and a caring attitude, we want to talk to you too.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality because diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involved – those ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care. Is that you?
